*A TRIBUTE TO THE OF RATNA BHARAT:

“IF YOU ARE BORN POOR IT’S NOT YOUR MISTAKE BUT IF YOU DIE POOR IT’S YOUR MISTAKE “
             Is a famous quote by Bill Gates , one of the top millionaires in the world . Dr.Abdul Kalam born as a son of a poor fisherman but he died as a son of our nation.Dr.Abdul Kalam’s day of Funeral ceremony was announced as Nationalholiday.The places of Master Blaster ‘Sachin R Tendulkar’,Mastero ‘Ilayaraja’ can be replaced but it is very difficult to replace the place Dr.Abdul Kalam because he was such a splendid personality.In street plays & movies a man can do different roles . Alike that Dr.Abdul Kalam played many roles in the World stage . He was a good teacher,a good scientist,a good leader,a good orator etc… His lose was a great loss to our nation . In practice , Bharat Ratna was only awarded to freedom fighters and achievers in the field of arts & science even sometimes to worthless politicians.But he was one of the PEOPLE LEADERS to win it.Honestly,Dr.Abdul Kalam was not proud of being awarded Bharat Ratna but Bharat Ratna was proud of being awarded to Dr.Abdul Kalam.

*KALAM & SPIRITUALITY:

     Dr.Abdul Kalam was a Muslim by birth.As he lived in India , which was a secular nation , he sociolised his ideas and views on religion.He , a muslim had a deep fond in PRAMUKH SWAMIJI .He wrote a book based on his relationship with Pramukh Swamiji called TRANSCEDENCE:MY SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE WITH PRAMUKH SWAMIJI.He had fasting during the time of Ramzhan.He also had the practice of reading Bhaghavat Gita .He followed Pramukh Swami as a disciple.He elaborately described his spiritual views in his book.He was a good secularist .During the inaguration of a cultural event he was asked to light a lamp as per the Indian tradition.The words told by him after that incident was really inspirational and clearly described his views on religiond.That quote was

        “A MUSLIM MAN WITH CHRISTIAN CANDLE LIGHTED HINDHU DEEP – THAT IS SECULARISM IN INDIA”
 LEARNING FROM SAINTS AND SEERS:

 According to D.R .Kalam 'For the society to prosper there are   two important needs.They are: prosperity through wealth generation and cherishing the value system of the people. The combination of the two will make the Nation truly strong and prosperous'.

 * AS A SAINT OF SCIENCE :

    D.R .A.P.J . Abdul Kalam was known as the "Saint of science"  and Saint of sprituality.

   P.K.Lehere the former chief secretary, Gujarat reflecting upon   the Ahemedabad book launch was thrilled by the message of love/peace in the book. He wrote that the book spreads the message of peace of love. The book was a great way of bringing science and sprituality together in the service of humanity as He states "This a confluence of two great saints a saint of science D.R.Kalam ,and a saint of spritual bliss,Pramukh Swaiji. This work inspires Love, Respect,Friendship,Compasion and the righteous path of humanity in ones mind.

*TRANSCENDENCE:HIS SPRITUAL          EXPERIENCE:

 This is the second last book written by D.R.Kalam , the eleventh President of  India and a pioneering scientists co-authorised by professor Arun Tiwari published by Harper Collins India, expresses his vision for a society in which science and sprituality are fused. Kalam states that he saw in Pramuk swami a true embodiment of trancendence. He was drawn to Pramukh swami simplicity and spritual purity. The book discusses the correlations between science and sprituality D.r.Kalam had said "I will work and sweat for a great vision.The vision of transforming India into a developed Nation powered by economic strength and a value system ". The book comprises 32 chapters equally divided into 4 major sections and an epilogue. The first section describes Kalam's spritual experiences with Pramukh swami. The second highlights the notable works of BARS. The third section advocates for fusion of science and sprituality .The fourth section reflects on the ideals of creature leadership.

 * SCIENCE AND SPIRITUALITY:

                          His first meeting with Pramukh Swamiji on 30 June 2001, he felt a strange connection with something that exists in realism of spirit - The part closest to divine.The third entitled fusion of science and spirituality describes the relationship between science and spirituality as expressed by preminent thinkers and scientist including Pythagoras ,Galileo Galili ,Albert Einstein , Gregor Mendal ,Baruch Spinoza, Srinivas Ramanujam , Jagadish Chandre Bose , Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar and Francis Collins . Kalam expressed ,the vision of a fusion between science and spirituality 'shows the way ahead for humanity. Kalam thought that science has advanced and provided much to human life but spirituality is an essential component of human life.

*SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT IN LIFE:
                       Spirituality is a religious process of reformation which aims to recover the original shape of man. In other words spirituality is search for meaning in life events and yearning for connectedness to the universe. Spirituality is sometimes associated with philosophical, social or political movements such as liberalism ,feminist theology. It plays an important role in discussions of issues in mental health. Our former President Late Mr APJ Abdul Kalam a man of simplicity,  an indigenous scientist  was also a man of great spirituality.  He was of the view that if a man wants to be successful  he should be both educationally and spiritually qualified. He says that both spirituality and education must go hand in hand and is a must for all round development of a person. Though by virtue of birth he was a Muslim he considered all as Indians irrespective of religion. His view of spirituality was not religion based  but inner development and reformation of a persons character based on values of life.  Through his book “Transcendence: My Spiritual Experiences with Pramukh Swamiji” He expresses his views on spiritualism. Abdul Kalam commented that he was drawn to Pramukh Swami’s simplicity and spiritual purity. After meeting with Pramukh Swami, Kalam reflected on Saint Thiruvalluvar’s teaching that when one is burdened by an issue, sitting in the presence of great divinity will free one from these worries. He revealed that he had experienced such a feeling in the presence of Pramukh Swami. The book discusses the correlation between science and spirituality. “The book  spreads the message of peace and love .This work inspires love, respect, friendship, compassion and the righteous path of humanity in one’s mind”. He  expresses his strong views on values of life which are Dama Dana Daya which are as follows: self control-Generosity-Mercy. He says that if people can practice these values in life they can lead a happy prosperous life and can achieve greatness . According to Dennis Waitley  “Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude”.  Abdul kalam strongly believed in a combination of principles of spirituality and scientific development . It must have been this practice which led to him to great height’s together with his hard work. Gautama Buddha's quote. “Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life” seems to be justified in Abdul Kalams life because he followed all these principles in life and with his hard work became successful in life and showed that  one determines his own destiny in life and achieve it if he can live a life of sacrifice, spirituality and humbleness. Thus Spirituality plays a major role in moulding  a persons character and  destiny in life and we should try to experience these values of spirituality in life.

*KALAM AND SECULARISM:

As Kalam said in Ignited minds and he studied in St Joseph's college Trichy a christian institution.Had roommates from different religions one hindu brahmin Sampath Kumar,The other christian Alexander and himself a muslim.They all stood as examples of secularism and communal harmony and never abused another religion.Secularist in true sense!Everyone has a different culture and custom!WE must respect that!In an interview with a popular comedian He was asked what would you suggest for a superstitious belief of throwing a white pumpkin on road toward off evil eye for which he calmly replied "One can't insult religious faiths and customs or have a word on that.We must try to respect different faiths and please don't call it superstitious! It is one's belief which should not be insulted!" When the latter said Road accidents occur due to these he said maybe one can clean the mess after throwing the fruit on the road and putting them in the bin!he knew the Mahabharata and often stated his favourite character was Vidhura.Though a muslim,he was a strict vegetarian!He went to temples and churches and comes from a secular family background which focussedon simple living high thinking!Once his great grandfather was watching a temple procession from a distance.The idol accidentally slipped from people who were carrying the idol (it's a custom in hinduism) and fell into a river! This man immediately jumped into the river with strong current and brought back the idol and he didn't even stop to think for a second!After that incident Dr Kalam's family was given great respect at the temple equal to pontiffs,kings and priests of high rank at that time.

*Abdul Kalam's twin pillars; Science and   the young;
   Navigating from lab to public life, Kalam used science as his compass and sometimes a poem on wheeler's Island "He was cult figure of science, and bought tremendous energy levels in science not just in India but globally. No one connected science to the common people ,to youth ,to children in the manner that he did. Ramasamy told in "Indian Express". He wanted to solve peoples' problems.

* CREATING CIRCUMSTANCE FOR
   SUCCESS;

 He always told the young to dream.This message comes from the understanding that each one of us has within ourselves the ability to create the circumstances for success -to attract, so to say,to ourselves what we desire.When as a child Einstein first saw a compass he was facinated by the way the needle moved whenever he changed direction. Watching the needle  became an obsession with him as he tried to understand the invisible force that moved the compass needle.

                                   Dyer argues that we can use this universal energy to bring to us the objects of our desire, because what we desire is also in us and vice versa. It becomes a matter of alignment and will that allows us to tap into this force.With thoughts like these on the points where science and spiritualism converge, He carved out opportunities to visit a few unique places in a year's time. Most of these places were new to him and offered him the chance to learn more about certain things he had always been interested in but could not explore - such as the world of saints and seers. He saw a diverge range of activities being carried out in spiritual centers he visited.

* HIS DISCUSSION WITH SWAMIJI;

 His journey startred on 13 June 2001, when he met  Pramukh swamiji  Maharaj of Swaminarayan Sanstha at Ahmedabad. His discussion with swamiji on the fusion of science and sprituality, and the role it could play in the National development, went on for an hour. He tempted to reproduce verbatim the questions and the answers with Swamiji.
*Abdul Kalam (A.K); Swamiji, India had the vision, since 1857,to be an Indipendant Nation. It took 90 yearsfor our us as a nation to get freedom. During this time the whole nation - the young and the old, rich and poor,educated and illiterate-was together in this aim.The goal was one, focussed, and well understood-to acquire independance.Swamiji, what is or what can be such a vision now ? Since the last fifty years ,India has been a developing country.Five hundred members of TIFAC(Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council) have given thought to hat should be the next vision for India.Swamiji , our problem is that we may present this before the government, but how do we create people with values to carry out such a big vision ? what we need is a cadre of value-based citizens.
*Swamiji; Along with these five, you needed a sixth one -faith in God  and developing people through sprituality.This is very important .We need to first generate a moral and spritual atmosphere.
*Abdul Kalam; Swamiji,for carrying such a big vision of transforming India, should we first create a spritual tradition- make people more spritually inclined- and then embark upon our vision, or focus on one of the important areas like education or health?Or should we intergrate everything and begin simultaneously?
*Swamiji; We must move ahead simultaneously.Work in the five fields that your team has identifed for the country's progress should be continued and this should be concurrently incorporated. Our culture teaches us to learn both para (spritual) and Apara (worldly) vidya (knowledge). Therefore, together ith knowledge of Apara, one should learn the Para as well.
*Abdul Kalam; To realize this great dream,three types of people are needed - punya atma (virtuous people), punya neta (virtuous leaders) and punya adhikari (virtuous officers). If the population of all the three were to increase in our society, then India wouldd become Jagadguru (world leader). How can their numbers be increased?
*Swamiji; Together with your academic and scientific training, give spritual training in our schools and collages. Nowadays, spritual education has been removed from the syllabi of schools and colleges. Along with academics, lessons such as satyam vada (speak the truth), dharmam chara (tread the path of righteousnes), service towardds others and faith in God were taught.
*Abdul Kalam; Swamiji, good citizens cannot be produced by the laws of government. Can spritual institutions do it? Can you ask parents to guide their children to learn the right values up to the age of fifteen?
* Swamiji; Yes, it's true. It's definetely true.We've been saying from the very beginning that values should be taught by parents at home, teachers at school, and the guru in later life.

*TEACHING OF KHWAJA SAHIB;

 The teachings of Khaja Sahib have been recorded in sevearl books. For him,one who possesses the magnanimity of the river, the kindness of the sun and humility of the earth is closest to God. Khwaja sahib said that the noblest character is possesed by one who is graceful in poverty, content in hunger, cheerful in grief and friendly in hostility. According to this great saint, the surest way to avoid the punishment of hell is to feed hungry , to redress the aggrieved and to held the distressed. Khwaja Sahib gave a role model of Aarif,one who considers death as his friend, comfort as his enemy and always rembers God. An Aarif fears, respects and possesses shyness.

*INTERACTION WITH CORONARY   ARTERY DISEASE PATIENTS;

 His interaction with the Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) patient, popularly known as 'Dilwalas' , at the Global Hospital and Research Center of the Brahma Kumari Academy headed by Dr.Pratap Midha, clearly illustrated that the mind-body interaction,  is vital for health which is defined as physical, mental and spiritual well-being.His friend Dr W. Selvamurthy postulated through years of clinical work that yoga and meditation significantly alleviate pain.
*UNIFICATION OF SCIENCE AND       SPIRITUALITY;
 Abdul Kalam says that the unification of science and spirituality
will be essential to take the benefit of science and technology to mankind . In 1911, Sri Aurobindo wrote in the Song of Humanity:'A time will come when the Indian mind will shake off the darkness that has fallen upon it, cease to think or hold opinions at second and third hand and reassert its right to judge and enquire with perfect freedom into the meaning of its own culture and tradition.'

*THE MERGE OF DARKNESS & BRIGHTNESS:

    “A CANDLE CAN BRIGHTEN  THE WHOLE ROOM BUT STILL THE SHADOW OF THE CANDLE IS DARK “
          A like the above quote, even a candle has a dark shadow .It doesn’t mean it is impossible to merge the original and its shadow . Without a candle there is no shadow & without a shadow the existence is false . Thus they are connected soulfully.
The context of candle & it’s shadow is Science and Spirituality . In the view of Dr.Kalam Science and Spirituality are connected soulfully.A cheque without sign is invalid.Alike it, a man with Science & Money without spiritual qualities areimmoral.He said Science and Spirituality must go hand in hand.He said Science and Spirituality should show the way ahead for humanity.He said ” Looking at science and spirituality as two different processes is a big mistake.I think both aresame.Both are two sides of the same coin. There was this one message common to all the places he visited - there is a higher self within us that trancends the limitations of the physical world. He felt the presence of this higher self in his father.
*conclusion;
  we conclude that D.r Kalam was not only a saint science but also a saint of Peace.
            “Science is not only compatible with Spirituality it is a profound source of Spirituality".
Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam , a pride of our nation had both aggressive and patient mind.We should be aggressive towards our passion and patient towards struggles .Work hard towards aim.Hope to be a'SUPER POWER' by 2020.Let’s pray that Kalam’s dream come true.
